Cookie policy

1. About this policy

This Cookie policy explains how Arct Technology LLC (“we”, “us” or “our”), which operates Snap VPN, uses cookies and similar technologies on the Snap VPN website at www.snapvpn.net (the “Website”) and on the account portal at accounts.snapvpn.net (the “Portal”). It identifies each cookie that may be set, the party that sets it, its purpose and its duration, and it describes the choices available to you.

This policy should be read together with our Privacy policy, which explains how we handle personal data, and our Terms of service. It does not apply to third-party websites or services, including those reached through links on the Website or the Portal.

2. What cookies and similar technologies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser and that your browser returns to that website with later requests. Cookies allow a website to remember information, such as a choice you have made or the fact that you are signed in.

  • First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies are set by a different domain, such as that of a payment provider whose services the website uses.
  • Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser or after a short period. Persistent cookies are kept for a fixed period, unless you delete them sooner.

“Similar technologies” are other means of storing information on, or reading information from, your device, such as local storage, pixels and scripts. In this policy, references to cookies include similar technologies where the context requires.

3. How we use cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies. These cookies are required for the Website and the Portal to function and remain secure: they remember your cookie choice, protect against abuse and automated traffic, keep you signed in to the Portal, and allow card payments to be processed and fraud to be prevented. Because the services you request would not work without them, the cookie banner does not offer an option to refuse them.

We do not use functional, analytics, marketing or advertising cookies, and we do not use cookies to build a profile of you or to show you advertising.

The cookie banner on the Website offers two options. “Allow necessary” permits only strictly necessary cookies. “Allow all” additionally permits optional cookies. The Website does not currently set any optional cookies. If we introduce optional cookies in the future, we will list them in this policy before using them, set them only if you have selected “Allow all” and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again.

4. Cookies on the website

The following cookies may be set when you visit the Website:

  • snapvpn_consent: set by us (first party). Stores your cookie choice, “all” or “necessary”, so that your choice is respected and the banner is not shown on every visit. Expires after 12 months. Strictly necessary.
  • __cf_bm: may be set by Cloudflare, our network and security provider, on the Website’s domain. Helps distinguish visitors from automated traffic (bots) and protects the Website against abuse. Expires after 30 minutes of inactivity. Strictly necessary.
  • cf_clearance: may be set by Cloudflare on the Website’s domain when it presents a security check and you pass it, so that you are not asked to complete the check again. Lasts for the period set in Cloudflare’s challenge settings, 30 minutes by default. Strictly necessary.

Whether Cloudflare sets these cookies depends on the security features in use and on whether your visit triggers a security check. Cloudflare publishes the full list of cookies it may set in its cookie documentation.

5. Cookies on the account portal

The following cookies may be set when you use the Portal. The Portal does not use analytics.

  • __Host-snap_session: set by us (first party). Keeps you signed in to the Portal. It is sent only over secure connections and cannot be read by scripts on the page. Expires after 7 days. Strictly necessary.
  • __stripe_mid: may be set by Stripe, our card payment processor, through its payment form on the Portal’s checkout page. Helps Stripe assess the risk of a payment in order to prevent fraud. Expires after 1 year. Strictly necessary.
  • __stripe_sid: may be set by Stripe in the same manner and for the same purpose, for a single browsing session. Expires after 30 minutes. Strictly necessary.
  • m: may be set by Stripe on its own domain (m.stripe.com), and is therefore a third-party cookie. Used by Stripe for fraud detection. Expires after 2 years. Strictly necessary.

Stripe may set these cookies when you open the card checkout in the Portal. Stripe’s full list of cookies is available on its cookie settings page, and Stripe processes the related data under its own privacy policy.

6. Analytics and other technologies without cookies

The Website uses analytics that we host and operate ourselves. These analytics do not set cookies and do not store information on your device, and they run for every visitor, whichever option is selected in the cookie banner. They record page views and clicks on download and checkout buttons, together with technical details such as the page, referrer, browser, device type, screen size, language and approximate location, but not your IP address. We use this information to improve Snap VPN and to provide the service properly. Further details, including how long this information is kept, are set out in our Privacy policy.

Pages of the Website also look up your IP address in order to display your connection status. This lookup sets no cookie.

We do not use third-party analytics or advertising services on the Website or the Portal.

7. Third-party cookies and services

Cloudflare and Stripe act as our service providers for the Website and the Portal and may set the cookies described above. They control those cookies and process the related data under their own policies, which may change from time to time. To prevent fraud, Stripe may also use information collected through its cookies, including information from other websites that use Stripe.

Cryptocurrency payments may be completed on pages operated by Cryptomus, and other third-party websites may be reached through links on the Website or the Portal. Those pages are governed by their operators’ own cookie and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for the cookies they set.

Browser extensions, security software and other programs on your device may store or read information independently of the Website and the Portal. This policy does not cover such technologies.

8. Your choices

When you first visit the Website, a banner asks you to select “Allow all” or “Allow necessary”. Until you make a selection, only strictly necessary cookies are used. Your selection is stored in the snapvpn_consent cookie for 12 months, after which the banner is shown again.

You may change or withdraw your choice at any time by selecting “Cookie settings” in the footer of the Website, which reopens the banner.

You may also use your browser settings to block or delete cookies. If you delete the snapvpn_consent cookie, the banner will be shown again on your next visit. Blocking or deleting strictly necessary cookies may prevent the Website or the Portal from working properly; in particular, you may be unable to sign in to the Portal or to complete a card payment, and you may be asked to pass security checks more often.

9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not respond to Do Not Track signals. We honor Global Privacy Control signals where applicable law recognizes them as a valid request to opt out. Because we do not sell personal data, share it for targeted advertising or use advertising cookies, neither signal changes the cookies described in this policy.

Where the law of the European Union, the United Kingdom or another jurisdiction requires consent for storing or accessing information on your device, it permits strictly necessary cookies to be used without consent, because they are essential to provide a service you have requested. We rely on that permission for the cookies described in this policy. Where these cookies involve personal data, we process it on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating and securing Snap VPN and, for the Portal, the performance of our contract with you.

The cookieless website analytics described above do not depend on your cookie choice. We operate them on the basis of our legitimate interests in improving Snap VPN and providing the service properly, as explained in our Privacy policy.

Your rights in relation to personal data, and how to exercise them, are described in our Privacy policy.

11. Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy, for example when the cookies we use change or when the law requires it. An updated policy takes effect when it is posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Where a change is material, we will also announce it in the app, on the Website or in the Portal. Because Snap VPN accounts have no email address, we do not give notice of changes by email.
